thanks for posting - I silently watch your blog and it has been so long since your last post I was getting a little worried - I bet you have jsut been really busy referring the cockerels!
uh oh.
oh dear..
then again, coq au vin is one of my favourites
Do you use Coloder to aid the plucking? I have found it speeds things up enormously.
I check your blog every day. I still haven't read or checked out all of the interesting things you have here.
Thanks for such a wonderful place to come and daydream.
I'm interested to know how Coloder could speed up plucking. What is it. Often if we have a few smaller cockerels to butcher we skin then for speed.
Coloder is a resin in powder form that you rub into the bird before dunking it in boiling water. The resin then sets and you literally peel off the feathers in one go. I could not believe it until I tried it for myself. Cuts plucking time by about 75%.
This is a great post.. Very informative... I can see that you put a lot of hard work on your every post that's why I think I'd come here more often. Keep it up! By the way, you can also drop by my blogs. They're about Vegetable Gardening and Composting. I'm sure you'd find my blogs helpful too.
Oh dear!! That's one of a cockerel's crowning glories.
Thanks for all the wonderful photos that I've spent hours looking at over the last few weeks. And for the education about permaculture and hugelkultur.
He is still pretty........ my chicken wranglers just started a blog..... lol this is the perfect post for them to see.,.. (part of our homeschooling regime)... xox
LOL! I was researching Coloder...my friend Kate brought me some to help pluck our ducks during Duckfest 2010 & now I am addicted to using it & need to find a source in the States, or start importing it...
